The National Treasury Academy, Orozo, is set benefit from the expertise of members of the United Kingdom District of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN-UK), following a call for professional collaboration by the Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Shemeldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi.
Ogunjimi made the appeal on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving a delegation from ICAN-UK District led by its Chairman, Mr. Akintayo Ojo, FCNA, during a courtesy visit to his office.
He said the partnership was necessary to align the Academy with global standards and enhance its capacity to serve as a centre of excellence in public financial management and accounting.
The Accountant General noted that the Academy, located in Orozo, Abuja, has immense potential for training and capacity development in the country’s public finance sector.
He urged the visiting delegation to bring their “wealth of experience and expertise in accounting principles and international best practices” to strengthen the institution’s framework.
Ogunjimi reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the Academy into a world-class training centre that would rival similar institutions globally.
“We are determined to make the National Treasury Academy a first-class institution for training and capacity development in Nigeria’s public finance sector,” he said.
He also assured the visiting accountants that Treasury staff would participate in the UK ICAN District’s 35th Annual Conference, scheduled for early March 2026.
In his remarks, Mr. Akintayo Ojo, Chairman of the UK ICAN District, expressed appreciation to Dr. Ogunjimi for his “unwavering support and commitment,” noting that his leadership had greatly contributed to the District’s achievements.
Ojo also provided updates on preparations for the forthcoming 35th Annual Conference, which he said would offer an opportunity for knowledge exchange and professional networking among accountants in the UK and Nigeria. He extended an invitation to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation to attend the event.
