The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced plans to carry out preventive maintenance at the Sokoto Transmission Substation on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

n a statement issued on Saturday by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN said it “will carry out its annual preventive maintenance on the 30/40MVA power transformer at the Sokoto Transmission Substation on Saturday, 17 January, 2026, from 10:00am to 6:00pm.”

The company explained that the maintenance exercise would temporarily affect electricity supply in parts of Sokoto metropolis, as the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) would not be able to access bulk power during the period.

“During this period, the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO), will be unable to receive bulk electricity from the affected transformer to off-take electricity for distribution to customers in parts of Sokoto Town,” the statement said.

According to TCN, areas expected to be affected include Sama Road, Abuja Road, Gagi Area, Minanata Area, Old Airport, and the Army Barracks.

TCN noted that the exercise is part of routine efforts to strengthen the power transmission network, stressing that “the planned maintenance is necessary to ensure the continued safety, reliability, and efficient operation of the transmission equipment supplying electricity to the area.”

The company apologised to customers for the temporary disruption, stating that it “sincerely regrets any inconvenience this temporary outage may cause electricity customers in the affected locations and appreciates their understanding as efforts are made to improve power system performance.”
