The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kaduna Region, has warned residents against encroaching on transmission line corridors, raising concerns over rising safety risks and threats to electricity supply.
The General Manager (Transmission), Kaduna Region, Engr. Nasir Mansur Fada, delivered the warning during a series of community sensitization visits to traditional leaders in Mando and Rigasa communities in Kaduna State this month.
In a statement on Tuesday, TCN said the engagements were part of efforts to curb vandalism and illegal developments along transmission line Right-of-Way (RoW) areas.
During visits to the palaces of the Sarkin Mando, Alhaji Sani Musa, and the District Head of Rigasa Community, Arch. Aminu Mohammed Idris, Engr. Fada “raised serious concerns about the increasing rate of encroachment on transmission corridors.”
He emphasised that “the construction of houses, shops, and other structures directly beneath high-tension lines exposes residents to significant health and safety hazards, including the risk of electrocution.”
The regional transmission boss cautioned that “individuals who deliberately encroach on designated Right-of-Way (RoW) areas do so at their own risk,” stressing that TCN would not be liable for compensation in cases of electrical accidents, “which may be fatal in the event of a line cut.”
Fada further warned that vandalism and RoW violations have far-reaching consequences beyond immediate safety concerns.
He noted that such actions “not only endanger lives but also undermine the stability and reliability of bulk electricity supply across the region and the nation at large.”
TCN said the sensitization campaign aims to strengthen collaboration with host communities and traditional institutions to safeguard transmission infrastructure and ensure the uninterrupted supply of bulk power nationwide.
