The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commissioned a new 300MVA power transformer at its 330/132/33kV Egbin Transmission Substation in Lagos State, increasing the facility’s capacity and strengthening electricity supply to parts of the state.
The commissioning, carried out on Monday, raised the substation’s capacity from 300MVA to 450MVA. The upgrade is expected to improve bulk power availability for Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC), enabling it to distribute more electricity to customers in Ikorodu, Shagamu, Ijede and surrounding communities.
TCN’s General Manager, Transmission, Lagos Region, Engr. Adeshina Adeonipekun, said the project was executed entirely by the company’s engineers and completed within six weeks.
He explained that the upgrade forms part of efforts to strengthen the national transmission network and enhance power delivery across the country.
According to him, the additional transformer will not only improve load management within the Lagos axis but also provide greater operational flexibility at the Egbin substation, one of the key transmission nodes in the region.
TCN said the development underscores its ongoing commitment to expanding transmission capacity in response to growing electricity demand, particularly in densely populated and industrial areas.
The Egbin Transmission Substation plays a critical role in wheeling bulk power to distribution companies, making the latest upgrade a strategic boost for improved service delivery in Lagos and its environs.
