The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), has announced plans to commence compensation payments for Project Affected Persons (PAPs) along the proposed Mando–Rimin Zakara 330kV Transmission Line in Kano State.
The disclosure followed a sensitisation programme organised for affected communities ahead of the construction of the power line. The programme was held on January 14, 2026, in Rimin Zakara Community as part of preparatory activities for the project.
The event brought together traditional rulers from 25 communities across Kano State, alongside the Chairman of Kiru Local Government Area, Hon. Abdullahi Sa’id Muhammad, security agencies and other key stakeholders.
Speaking at the forum, the Director of Transmission at the Federal Ministry of Power, Engr. Abinbola Ominiyi, said “the project would improve electricity supply in the region.” He urged host communities and stakeholders to support the initiative, stressing the need for collaboration to ensure its smooth execution. Ominiyi also assured residents that “adequate compensation would be paid to all affected persons.”
On the funding status, the Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Kano Region, Engr. Ibrahim Aliyu, who represented the General Manager, Transmission, Kano Region, Engr. M. K. Bello, disclosed that “the Federal Government has released its portion of the compensation funds.” He added that “payment of compensation is expected to commence between now and April.”
Providing details of the compensation process, a consultant with Resource Field Nigeria Limited, Mr. David Ayomide Sanni, explained that “compensation would be paid by cheque directly to beneficiaries.” He noted that affected persons would be required to present “their Bank Verification Number (BVN), National Identification Number (NIN) and relevant documents.” According to him, “beneficiaries would also receive farm inputs at the conclusion of the exercise.”
The Mando–Rimin Zakara 330kV Transmission Line is a key power infrastructure project aimed at strengthening electricity transmission and improving supply reliability within Kano State and neighbouring areas. The sensitisation exercise forms part of TCN’s engagement strategy to ensure transparency, community buy-in and timely compensation before construction begins.
