The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has enforced safety measures along the Ihovbor–Ajaokuta 330kV transmission line, clearing illegal structures encroaching on its Right of Way in Ihovbor Community, Edo State.
The clearance exercise, carried out by TCN’s Benin Region from Wednesday, February 18 to Friday, February 20, 2026, targeted structures erected along the transmission corridor of the new 330kV power line. The company said the action was necessary to protect lives and property and safeguard critical national power infrastructure.
Ahead of the operation, TCN conducted sensitisation programmes within the host community to highlight the dangers associated with building under high-voltage transmission lines. The company also issued a three-month notice to affected residents and paid compensation where applicable.
A team from TCN’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, working in collaboration with the Property Department, led the enforcement exercise. Traditional rulers, youth leaders and other key stakeholders were informed before the operation commenced.
TCN explained that reclaiming its Right of Way is crucial to maintaining safety standards and ensuring uninterrupted electricity transmission along the Ihovbor–Ajaokuta axis.
The company reiterated its commitment to enforcing safety regulations across transmission corridors nationwide, warning that encroachment on power lines poses serious risks to lives and the stability of the national grid.
