Adamawa State will host the inaugural National Council Meeting on Livestock Development, a major step in the Federal Government’s agenda to modernise the livestock sector and strengthen food security across the country.
According to a jingle released by the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development on Sunday, the meeting will take place from November 24 to 25, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Yola. The gathering is expected to draw leaders, technical experts and development partners to set a unified direction for the industry.
The ministry said it is “leading a new beginning, driven by innovation,” stressing that wide-ranging reforms are already underway. It listed ongoing interventions including “rehabilitating Nigeria’s 417 grazing reserves, constructing modern animal health centers, introducing exotic cattle breeds to boost productivity, expanding pasture development, upgrading abattoirs and building new slaughterhouses, and strengthening the skills of women, youth and livestock extension agents across the country.”
The ministry added that modern planning tools are now shaping decisions across the sector. “Today, data guides every decision, feed and water systems are expanding, and farmers now have greater access to finance, training and peace,” it said, projecting confidence in “building a stronger future for Nigeria’s livestock sector.”
Convened by the Minister of Livestock Development,Idi Maiha, the council meeting aims to outline policies that can sustain growth and make Nigeria’s livestock industry globally competitive. The forum, according to the ministry, will “bring together leaders, experts and partners to shape a resilient, sustainable and globally competitive livestock industry, one that drives growth, ensures food security and improves lives.”
The ministry acknowledged the support of Adamawa State in hosting the first-ever meeting.
With preparations in full swing, the ministry said the country is poised for long-term transformation. “Adamawa is ready. Nigeria is ready. The future of livestock development is unfolding before our eyes,” it stated.
