The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), through its Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department, in collaboration with the Nigerian Fire Service, has conducted a fire drill at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja to evaluate staff response to emergency evacuation procedures.
The exercise, held on Tuesday, commenced with the activation of the fire alarm system, prompting staff of TCN, personnel of the Federal Ministry of Power, and visitors to evacuate the building to a designated muster point. The simulation was designed to test preparedness and ensure familiarity with safety protocols during fire incidents.
Speaking after the drill, TCN’s General Manager, HSE, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Ibrahim, described the exercise as successful, commending the prompt response of staff, visitors, management, and fire service personnel.
“This drill has demonstrated a high level of awareness and cooperation among all participants. It is a significant step towards strengthening our emergency preparedness at the Headquarters,” Ibrahim said.
Also addressing participants, the Principal Manager (Fire Safety) in TCN, Mr Monday Johnson, praised staff for their orderly evacuation and stressed the importance of consistency in such exercises.
“Regular drills are essential to sustain awareness and ensure that everyone remains prepared for any eventuality,” Johnson stated.
A representative of the Nigerian Fire Service, Kolade John, noted that the exercise was a simulation aimed at reinforcing safety consciousness.
“This drill is to ensure that people are familiar with evacuation procedures in public buildings. Fire incidents can occur at any time, and preparedness is key to saving lives,” he said.
The exercise underscores TCN’s commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and equipping its workforce with the necessary skills for effective emergency response.
