The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the completion of the Kuje 132/33kV Transmission Substation, a development expected to significantly improve electricity supply to parts of Abuja.
According to a statement released by TCN on Thursday, the substation is now 100 per cent complete, with all control room and switchyard equipment fully installed and pre-commissioning tests successfully concluded.
The facility is fitted with three 60MVA power transformers, which will inject an additional 144 megawatts into the national grid once commissioned. Nine 33kV feeders are also ready to deliver bulk power to load centres within the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) network.
“Upon commissioning, the Kuje Transmission Substation will significantly increase bulk power available to the DisCo for onward distribution to Kuje and Dafara communities,” TCN stated. “This development is expected to eliminate erratic power supply in the areas, stimulate local commerce, and improve the quality of life of residents.”
The substation is fed by two 132kV transmission lines—one from the Lugbe West Main Transmission Substation and the other from the New Apo Transmission Substation. Its 132kV control room houses panels for remote switching operations, as well as protection panels to safeguard transformers, busbars, and other critical equipment.
TCN also highlighted that the substation’s automation system allows for full remote control of all outdoor equipment, providing an interface for the National Control Centre (NCC) to monitor and operate the facility efficiently.
