The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, has pledged to improve bulk electricity delivery across the country, while calling for stronger cooperation from staff and unions to achieve the goal.
Abdulaziz made the commitment on Wednesday during his first town hall meeting with employees at the company’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, following his reappointment by Bola Tinubu for a second five-year term.
He said his renewed mandate would focus on practical and measurable reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s transmission network and ensuring more reliable electricity supply.
“This reappointment is not just a continuation; it is a call to greater responsibility,” Abdulaziz said. “It is aligned with the directive and vision of Mr President under the Renewed Hope Agenda for the power sector, which seeks sustainable improvements in power delivery.”
The TCN boss noted that the country’s grid has recorded significant progress over the past decade, with wheeling capacity increasing from about 5,000 megawatts in 2015 to over 8,700 megawatts currently.
He attributed this growth to sustained investments in infrastructure, including the installation of transformers and completion of major transmission projects nationwide.
Abdulaziz also highlighted ongoing support from international partners such as the World Bank, African Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and Agence Française de Développement, which he said have contributed to strengthening the grid.
According to him, more than 80 transformers have been installed in less than two years, with high-capacity units deployed across key transmission stations in different parts of the country. He added that multiple substations have also been upgraded to enhance grid stability and reduce system disturbances.
Despite public criticism of the power sector, Abdulaziz maintained that TCN possesses one of the most technically skilled workforces, stressing that staff dedication has been central to the company’s achievements.
“In this new phase, we intend to go a step further. Infrastructure growth must translate into stable, reliable, and consistent bulk electricity supply for Nigerians,” he said, urging employees to work collaboratively toward that objective.
The Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Abiodun Afolabi Fadahunsi, described the town hall meeting as part of management’s commitment to transparency and inclusiveness, noting that staff alignment is critical to meeting industry demands.
Other executives, including the Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider, Olugbenga Ajiboye, and the Executive Director of Finance and Accounts, Chuks Ochije, also called for staff commitment and assured workers of continued support from management.
